What's Bugging You?

My poster, "What's Bugging You?", is a representation of issues that effect every part of the world. I chose pollution, war, poverty, crime, and hunger as my main issues on the largest bugs, but added more bugs because there so many more issues infesting the world. I chose to use the same type of bug, the fly, to represent that infestation. I started with the background and added the photo of Earth. Since I knew what I wanted the poster to look like, I then chose my text which I feel works well with the bug theme. I discovered on my background that the pink star above the Earth was higher and partly covered by the text, so I moved it closer to the Earth. The process of adding the bugs to the Earth took some time, with a lot of resizing, and manipulation using the 3-D tool for just the right angle. I added a drop shadow to the bugs to further enhance the feeling that they are actually sitting on the Earth. I was careful to add the drop shadow last so the light source remained the same for all of them. The last effect I added was the glow around the text. I felt like it needed something, so I added a white drop shadow to the text which I think casts a cosmic glow. Please click on my poster to see it larger.

  1. Wow just as last module your work is amazing! I love the idea of your poster and all your elements work very well together. I think adding the drop shadows to your flies really give this poster that something extra. I also really like the way you chose to use the text on top, it really gives it that majestic/outer space feeling. The only thing that is a little off for me is the text on the flies, I think maybe different colors or maybe a transformation of the actual text so that they match better to the flies would really put this poster over the top. But either way very nice work!

  2. I think this all work very well together. I like how the words turned out. I know how finicky I can be with drop shadows and glows to get what I am looking for. I think the bugs look great, the drop shadow does just what you wanted it to. It looks like they are sitting on the earth. I also like that you put in the extra effort to move the pink star. It’s the little touched that make the difference.

  3. Nice poster. The flies definitely add the sense of dirtiness to the world. The words on the flies look better now that you have changed the color to white. Also a good job with the drop shadow under the flies.

  4. I like it too. Very dramatic. Nice job of silhouetting the bugs.
